Wow- who would have know after all these years that WHSv1 lives on.
I love my server and have recently had issues (lot of invalid files) which forced me to do a full re-install.
Lucky I have this install disks - but like you all have found out, no automatic updates.
I found this topic after searching, have downloaded the WSUS iso and about to embark on applying.
I wanted to try this first on a copy - so will let you know how I go!
Thanks again for keeping WHSv1 alive!

I also seem to have probably the only LX197 on the planet still running - I have 14TB connected (one 4TB drive, the rest 2TB).... my families life of videos and photos and slowly getting through all the harcopy photos and digitising them!

Any idea, if the LX197 will have any issues with WSUS?

thanks so much again!

If you do have a problem with it, please post it along with what OS you're using on the install client. But the updater should be fairly seamless.

You may have issues with finding any HP updates that post date your install disk though.

This is great! Thank you for all of this effort.
I have four HP Mediasmart and two Data Vault servers running for many years..

Using the installer, kb3033890 gave me problems, log showed Win 10 version, downloaded 2003 version and ran it instead...

Data vault x300's HP updates were slightly different, do you have any insight on what the final version was?
mine show version 3.1.2.34881
Thanks

kb3033890 is a 2015 s2k3 update. It fixes a vulnerability for WMP and is not required in our environment. Cant explain why it wouldn't install.

I think Guardian is running DataVaults, He may have the answer on that. If he doesn't jump in (he's not regularly commenting any longer), send him a PM.

There was no attachment. Did sp3 install? You can RDP into the server and search Control Panel/ Windows Updates/View Update History to verify all the WHS updates are installed.

Note that all the s2k3r2 and WHSv1 updates are contained in the WSUS off line tool's download. If in the odd chance (after doing the update runs) you find the tool didn't auto install one of the WHSv1 updates, you can still locate & manually install it.

Should your install be missing anything, open the WSUS off line tool, open the folder w2k3\enu, and use the search box to locate anything you find missing. From there you can simply install it by double clicking on it (each WHSv1 update needs to install individually with a restart afterwards). BTW, with all my testing I ran the updater after actually downloading it onto the server desktop. YMMV if you are running it from a thumb drive.

Hi,
Finally got around to running the update. Had errors on the first pass, reran, and then just one error. Tried running it again, same error.
The same Error as jl524 had with KB3033890 not being applied.
Log file says:

Tue 02/23/2021 18:04:08.40 - Warning: Installation of ..\w2k3\enu\windowsmedia10-kb3033890-x86-enu_ef4e82e7007462fb64ed10c4e127d828e5126efc.exe /q /z failed (errorlevel: 1603)

When I try to execute the exe directly it says:

The version of Windows you have installed does not match the update you are trying to install.

My client is a Windows 10 computer. The media server when I run MSINFO32 says:

OS Name Microsoft(R) Windows(R) Server 2003 for Small Business Server
Version 5.2.3790 Service Pack 2 Build 3790

I searched the mounted ISO file for KB968649 and couldnt find it anywhere......

Happy to post the log file if it would help,
thanks

Think this is a typo, PP3 is listed as KB968349 on my system.

However, the large 150,236mb HP ver. 3.0 Server Patch 1 (v3.0.14.33083) has been pulled down. Why they pulled the primary patch down but left the smaller patches is anyone's guess.

It looks like all the patches are back on line. If Im not mistaken the 3.0 patch is located here:

Searching the HP site, looks like there is a patch for 2.5 as well...

Hopefully this might help but, all the patches look like they are still there for the moment... Ive downloaded them, not sure if they can be stored for safe keeping somewhere... but here are the links in cronological order...

I just downloaded the HP system updates posted above to check and compare the file sizes against the Updates I had in storage already. Turns out the first link for the 3.0 patch is the same file as the MSDV301433083 file in the robust list of HP updates that were found.

Also the 3.2.1.34990 & the 3.2.1.34990JA file are the same size file.

Better grab all the updates posted on that list before they disappear for good, especially if your restore disk is an earlier v1.1 or v2.5

And if your working with an earlier disk, here is a guide to successfully complete an update to 3.0. There is a pdf download link on this page it would be good to download to.

off topic I know - but any way to stop the infamous "Invalid File Handle" from happening... I was hoping that rebuilding the server from the ground up and applying all the patches I can find (none of the HP ones wanted to apply on my LX197) that it would stop it... but alas, they have returned!

Is it a symptom of having the file duplication? Perhaps I should just have better backups instead....

I had another chance to try the updater. But the results were the same - after letting it run 3 times and seeing the message "nothing left to install" in the log, I was still sitting at PP2. So definitely something wrong there.

@rbknox (and anyone else who might need support), it seems that the original wsusoffline.net site is now no longer active, new users can't register any longer, and that continuing development of the tool for all intensive purposes has come to an end. This is likely due to Microsoft's migration to Windows 10 bi-yearly version releases obsoleting their previous monthly on-line update model (which the WSUS Off-Line tool created an updating alternative to).

The good news is that Aker, the author of the wsus off-line tool customized for both versions of WHS, has recently setup a github page to assist with any troubleshooting. And the mediafire link https://www.mediafire.com/folder/m2r4t1jsyrzam/wsusou_WHS to the WHSv1 update tool is also still live (if you need to update Vail, go here http://www.mediasmartserver.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=33&t=15052)

You will need to register a user name and password on github, but can bypass setting up a group. Just close out of that and reopen the link and sign in if needed. https://gitlab.com/wsusoffline/bugtracker/-/issues

At the same time, remember that all the server s2k3r2 updates as well as the WHS updates are located on a folder in the tool's download. So if for some reason you find (as rbknox found) that the tool fully updated the s2k3r2 updates auto-magicly but didn't install WHS PP3 & the subsequent rollups, you can also use the tools update archive to manually install individual updates. You don't need to search around the web for them.

Once you open the tools primary folder, instead of opening the tool itself (UpdateInstaller.exe) go to the folder w2k3\enu, locate the update you want to install, then just double click on the .exe file.

Just make sure whatever you install is applied in the order of release (smaller KB # to larger). In the case of WHS PP3 and the two WHSv1 rollup updates, install each individually and restart after each before installing another.

I started looking a bit deeper at these update links. The stand alone update link posted above for MSDV301433083ServerPatch.exe is actually patch 1 for the v3.0 update. The naming convention for the HP MSS update v3.0 is 3.0.6.31976. This update (v3.0) is standard on the ex49x/x310/x510 recovery disks. The ex48x recovery disk came with v2.0 and will easily update to v2.5.1.5. The ex47x started with v1.1 and easily updates to v1.3.8. By following the direction in the link below can also be updated to v2.5.1.5.

http://www.mediasmartserver.net/wiki/index.php/Installing_the_HP_MediaSmart_Server_2.5_Update_on_the_EX47x

http://www.mediasmartserver.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=4122

All those other updates are an exceptional find since updating requires incremental update installs (they are not cumulative). If memory serves, HP actually made v3.0 available on an updated install disk so the ex47x & ex48x OS could be installed with it baked in. But you could only get that disk for a for a short time. I'm un-sure if they actually provided v3.0 as an optional download for those versions. Alex or Ruben probably remember this better than I. One thing for sure, you'd have to be pretty lucky to find any of those v3.0 disks these days.

Hopefully there's a link from HP out there somewhere for the v3.0 update. If not, anyone with a ex47x or a ex48x wouldn't be able to update past that v2.5.1.5 patch you found.

For anyone seeking support when using the WHSv1 updater tool or the WHS11 updater tool, support has transferred from the WSUS off line website to the below site on gitlab.

I have been trying the offline uploader on my ex470 w/v1 disc and had many of the same error/issues as others. Same files not loading. 1603 errors... other errors in the logs.

I was finally able to update to v1.x SP 2 but could go no further with the tool. I tried multiple times to do the 2.1 updates but kept getting an error saying "the version you are trying to install requires MSS v2.1" or something similar.

On a whim, i skipped to the 2.51 update and it installed. I then did the PP and UR updates and they installed properly.

I have been using a debug cable and was working directly off of the server and also using a win10 notebook and the connector with no issues.
Currently I am stuck at v2.5 (the interface is awkward). This version of the interface also does not give the option to search for updates on the server manually.

From what I can see, looks like I would need to find the 3.0 disc and then do the other updates using the tool or manually.

If anyone is interested, I can provide the logs. May help further develop the tool.
