I recently snagged a MV and love the it so far. The only complaint is that the 500GB is a little small, i have found tutorials about changing the 500 out and my idea is to replace it with 2 1tb WD Green drives.

I have a few questions, looked on Lee's site http://www.k0lee.com/hpmediavault/index.html and have not gotten a straight answer,

1) if i just start with one drive would i be able to do 2 partitions? one mirrored and one extra partition?
2) if i start with one TB drive will the 500gb transfer the data on that drive so then i can swap the second TB drive in so it will be 1 TB mirrored

i hope that makes sense.

The MV2 upgrade guide seems to do what you want.

It's been a long time since I've used the MediaVault, I don't remember exactly how the partitions can be created. For your second question, I believe the answer is no as it will need to create a volume on the 2nd disk that is the same size as the volume on the first disk for mirroring. I presume this is related to your first question.
