Hello there, i thought i should upgrade my mediasmart server with 4x1GB drives, i did shut of the server, removed the system disk, inserted a 1GB disk, waited for the red/blue blinking, used a paper clip until it said click, waited and then it goes solid blue, a few seconds later it blinks purple/red and then it becomes solid red instead of solid purple.

Ayone have a solution of my problem?

You should be able to click the button again when the LED is solid red, and it should give you blinky code. Count the number or red and blue blinks, many codes are listed in the help files or I can look them up for you.

That means Recovery Mode failed, most likely you have a corrupt boot flash, and the recommended action is to contact HP support.

One thing you can try: remove all HDDs and disconnect any USB devices, power on the server and let it boot by itself. By default it will try to boot off the recovery flash and you can see if you get the same error. If you do, then it's warranty time.

I've tried what you suggested and still got the same yes, damn, i already had it in because the network card stopped working in it, then it came back it was missing some screws and a rubber thing for one of the fans.

I sent a mail to Infocare (the company that do HP repairs in Norway) i got a reply that it was a trainee that did the job and everyone can do mistakes, it even took them 3 weeks to replace the motherboard in my server.

So it's kinda frustrating that i have to return it again.

Ok, i got my server back now, but it still won't get to solid purple or flashing purple/red.

after i click the paperclip, it turns red/purple, then blue and after that solid red.

Hmm, it sounds like you it may be skipping the boot into the server recovery. Does it boot normally to WHS?

Can you please describe the LED behavior exactly from power-on, including the press of the Recovery button?
