So.
My EX475 started acting strange.
The console won't boot up but I can access the folders via the network.
After a reset now it says it need to contact the administrator because access is blocked.
But I can still access the folders through the network.

So essentially it's functioning as a NAS right now.

I would like to get the back up feature working and I would like to access some folders from a previous back up to resolve an unrelated problem with some software.
I have tried a factory reset and then installing the WHS Server REcovery from CD but it can't find the server, though ironically I can find it through my network and get to the folders (which don't include the back up folders obviously)
So, any suggestions?

Have you tried remote desktop connection?

User administrator
Password what your console password is.

Try running the console from there.
Also check your event log and clean it out.
Start>control panel> Administrative tools>event viewer

You can also change the console password while there.
If you can get in.

Thank you!!!!
Deep in my memory somewhere I knew there was a way but I think the last time I used the remote access it was with tech support (back when it was still under warranty) and I could not recall how they did it....I think it was via a CMD but I could be wrong because that was back with XP.
Anyway, small hiccup and I had to run to the deep file and pull out the manual where I had written the original documentation down (didn't use Admin...LOL so that was a problem at first)
Up and in...got a bunch of error messages from 2019 and now I'm in the console and looking to see if I can repair whatever is wrong.
Thank you again.
Saved this thing from becoming a boat anchor again.
Damn thing has more lives than Felix.

half way there.
Got into the remote console.
Checked systems.
There's a hard drive missing (#4) and I know how to fix that. (i have two WHS boxes. I was using one I bought as a parts source and the top drive never connected properly so I'll go back to the original box which has all four working.
(I thought the issue might be with the box so I changed them)
I can't access the backups though, says I need to be running WHS console on a PC.
thanks again. I'll plug away at this tomorrow.

Cool.
BTW,
If your pc is windows 10 look and see if smb1 is installed.
If not add it back on top of smb2
It is in control panel called turn windows features on or off or just search for it

thanks again.
Yes SMBs is installed
Update
I deleted the HD which appeared to be dead.
Repaired Backup.
Took a while.
Still can;t access via Console
Formatted the drive I pulled out. Will install it as the OS drive in the other WHS box I have and install the OS etc and see if it boots up with console access.
If so then I will copy what I can to the WHS2 and then maybe reformat the WHS1 drive and start again there.
I may lose all the back ups but I can transfer all the standing files at least to WHS2 and to Cloud.
I will have to look this up but can you run 2 WHS on the network as long as they are named differently?
Or is that a problem?
THanks for all your help folks...I dont have to wrestle with WHS issues so it's always a re learning process.

You need to make sure it is smb1.0 not just smb2
The mediasmart server requires smb1.
It is not capable of using smb2.
So you should have both smb1 and smb 2 installed.

thanks again...got busy with work stuff so I had to put this aside for a bit.

SMB 1.0 /CIFS is installed and ticked
as is SMB1.0/CFIS Automatic removal
SMB1.0/CFIS client
SMB1.0/CFIS server

It won't allow me to make changes however and the error code 0X800736B3 says the referenced assembly is not installed....

I have a suspicion this may be all rooted from a Win10 upgrade....I'm going to go in on my old XP machine and see if there's any difference...

thanks again

Well you want to disable the SMB1.0/CFIS Automatic removal
It will self delete if you do not use smb1 for 30 days.
