I have an EX470 that I originally setup with my W7 desktop computer. From the desktop I can RDP to the HP server and I can use the Connector software to logon. I can no longer browse the files in Explorer. I can see the server under Network. When I click on the server, I am asked to enter a password. I am told the password is incorrect. I know the password is right as I am able to access the server using RDP and the Connector software.

I have a W10 laptop. The issues are a bit worse in that I cannot browse to the server (same issue as my W7 desktop) nor can I use the connector software as it does not show up in my task bar. At one point, the Connector software was working. The last backup from my W8 laptop was 67 days ago. So, I uninstalled the connector software and attempted a re-install. I was prompted for the password to the server. The password no longer works.

Following the advice in the thread "Latest Windows 10 Update Bricked WHS" I disabled SMB automatic removal and enabled SMB1 for client and server on my W* laptop. I've rebooted and tried the install again with the same result. I still cannot browse the server.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Brian

When it prompts for a password use the user of "Administrator"
Then the password you know
Give that a try.

The only way I know to reset the password and not loose every thing is a restore not reset.
Using the factory cd
That is the only place it prompts for a password.
The only thing you will loose as far as I know is client backups and client accounts.

Scratch all that if you can remote desktop and this works

Remote desktop to the machine.
Select start-windows security
The popup has a change password button if you can remember your old one.
If that does not work then back to restore method.

Ruben,

I have never set up a user account. I have only had Administrator as the login. I've not had to "login" until in more recent times. Now, even though the password I use is correct and unchanged since the dawn of time, I can't browse to the files. As I said, I can RDP and use the Connector software.

Today, I set up a server user account with the same username/password (not Administrator) as the login for my W7 machine. I get the same thing.

Thanks for the reply

Brian

You need the connector software to browse files from the pc.
Assuming you server is called HPSERVER not OFFICE you could try
\\HPSERVER\Software in your browser to get to the connector install.
I don't know where office\administrator came from but I would try a different account and login to it as HPSERVER and then user administrator and password.

But then you are stuck with the password again to set it up.
Have you tried the change password I typed about?

Ruben, there are two computers, both have issues.

I think I stumbled across the issue with my W7 machine. The server time and date are 5.5 days behind. I reset the date/time and can now browse the files.

I periodically shut it down when I go out of town. Is there a battery in the server?

I will work on the laptop in the next few days.

Coin battery would definitely cause this. It happened to me a while back.
So would a mis-named server\user
