Hi,
I have a EX470 with original Phoenix Award Bios.
I deleted the SMI DISK USB DEVICE partition, and the SMI DISK 247 MB is gone!
After this my server doesn’t work!!! It doesn’t boot. It doesn’t have BIOS Setup access.
I have the VGA, keyboard, and, mouse cable.
I read lot but I don't have the right procedure for resolve this issue.
Could you help me? Does anyone know how do I recover it?
I appreciate your support! Thanks.

Why would you delete that? You should still be able to access the BIOS and boot from the hard drive, if you can't then I can only presume there's a hardware issue.

This is the problem!!! maybe I have 2 problems.
The EX470 boot but it stop after CPU recognition... It dosen't recognite the hard disk and the rest of devices.
And it dosen't accept DEL or any keys' convination (by USB keyboard, or old-style keyboard).

This looks like a hardware issue. Try to troubleshoot your hardware systematically.

That said, try pulling (all) your hard drives. A bad hard drive can hang the boot.

Also, please give details on any hardware changes you've made to your server (ie: CPU, Memory, Video Cable etc). Consider the possibility that a change you've made may be responsible for the issue you're encountering.

I had my server working for 3 years... and one month ago I changed to WHS2011 and them I used the server for 3 or 4 weeks well.
After this I deleted the SMI DISK USB DEVICE partition... and them reboot it and it never boot.
I try with & without HD, VGA cable, USB Keyboard, oldstyle keyboard, ethernet cable, mouse, etc... any other posible convinetartion... and It has the same problem.

The server has 2 GB RAM and CPU AMD|A64 LE1640 2.6G AM2 90N R, I installed it in 2008.

What have you tried since you last posted?

If you're able to connect a PS2 keyboard you could try disabling USB and see how far that gets you.

I believe the server would still be functional without the SMI area which is used only to place the server into its recovery mode so you can perform a server recovery which would only prevent you from installing the original OS provided with the server.

The LE1640 is another story. There are 2 or 3 versions of this processor with only one version known to work properly with the EX470. If you removed all connected drives and external connected devices with exception to your DEBUG cable and the devices connected to it and if you still still have the same issue I would reinstall the original process back into the server and see if the issue resolves itself. I ran a 1640 for less than a week and it did not really improve the servers performance that I could actually notice. The 2GB of RAM had the bigger impact to the servers performance.
