Wow, thanks everyone for the kind thoughts and memories! I'm blown away so many of you are still coming around here. Sorry I missed the replies until now, honestly I didn't think people would even notice and I forgot to check this thread.

As you've noticed I haven't taken the site down yet.

I did turn off all the ads, they weren't generating much anyway. I do still want to shut down the LLC and stop paying Google for email, but I can take my time on those things since I didn't get it done before the end of the year and will still have to deal with it on my taxes next year.

I've noticed some of you scraping the site, I'm glad you're doing it! Nobody has been abusive about it, I get more alerts from AI scrapers that aren't well behaved. I don't know a better way to scrape the site unfortunately so you're on your own with tools for that.

I'll probably leave things as they are for a while longer, given the reasons above, but no promises it won't go away at some point. It's hard to believe it's been 17 years! :mss:

The end of an era indeed. I bought my ex470 in December 2007 and it is still running today, fully upgraded, with OMV 6. I've gone through 3 power supplies to boot. Where has the time gone? Godspeed.

Alex,

I know I haven't been very active the last few years, but I do come back here from time to time. All I an say is thank you from the bottom of my heart for setting up this site for an amazing community. I am so blessed to have been a part of it.

I learned so much from everyone here, and I love that I was able to give back through the Home Server SMART add-in. I've been working the last couple of weeks to get the source code out into GitHub in case there is anyone who wants to continue working with it. Or maybe someone just wants to see the code that made it work.

I miss the days when I could fire up my Popcorn Hour and pull content direct from the MSS. I wound up having three of those servers total, first my EX490, followed by an EX487 and EX495. Charles, who made the debug boards, made those servers even more versatile because I could later run more advanced versions of Windows on them.

In any event I guess the time to say good-bye has come. As someone who lived during the BBS era, it was equally sad to shut down my BBS for the last time. I don't even remember which BBS it was that I called last, maybe because I didn't realize it at the time that it would indeed be the last BBS I would ever call.

Thank you again Alex and everyone here at the MediaSmartServer.net community. It has been an honor and pleasure to be a part of this community with y'all.

Matt

Well I'm very glad this site is still here. My EX470 is still going strong and has saved my bacon multiple times... as has this site... and I just downloaded the docs to get my recently updated Win10 machine and new Win11 machine connected to my WHSv1.

@msawyer91.. I still use your SMART addin today!!

Thank you to everyone for all the help you have provided.
