Hi all

I have a X510 running the standard software and a EX490 that I have put WHS 2011 on.

I would want to administer and use both boxes from the same PC.

However I could not get the WHS 2011 connector to install until I had uninstalled the older connector.

Has anyone managed to get both versions of the connector software to run together on the same PC ?

To my knowledge only 1 connector can be installed on a pc.
You can still remote desktop and see the shares on the other server, but as for as having the connector and backing up the client, you will have to pick. Sorry, not what you want to hear :-(

I have two x-510 on my network, but I just synctoy all the shares to the other one as an extra backup.

WHS v1 which is built on win server 2003 is EOL.
If I had to pick, I would go with the whs 2011 as it is built on win 2008 server, but as you know, you will not have DE. You would need to pickup stablebit drive pool or the others that have been used with whs 2011.

Myself, I will be running whs v1 till it won't go anymore. But I do have (2) copies of whs 2011 and a DIY win 2012E server, just in case.

Hope this helps, good luck.

Hi

Thanks for that, I guessed it would be the case.

Since I have got WHS 2011 up and running on my EX490 I have got to prefer it to the old WHS.

So I am upgrading my X510 to WHS 2011 with an SSD for the system disk and keeping the EX490 as a spare for now.

I am using the trial version of Drivepool at the moment but will be paying for it as soon as I have got all my data onto WHS 2011.

I don't blame ya for going with Whs2011 as it will probably last longer then whs v1.

I purchased Drivepool and tried it. Then I tried Stablebit Drive pool and it was way eaiser (I thought) so I bought and am using it in my win2012E DIY server.
The 2012E is just for testing right now, but when whs v1 stops working, I will first try whs2011, if that does not work, I will deploy my 2012E box.

Good Luck and enjoy.
P.S. FYI.
I tried a ssd for main drive and it was fast, but not as fast as I thought it would be and I was afraid it would wear out to soon with all the read / writes that a server does. I have no data to support that, but since I had upgraded the ram and cpu in my 510, it was fast enough with a 2TB OS spinner.
