I've just purchased an EX490 server and have a query about how it can help how I use my media.

My current way of 'working' is:

......

My iTunes library is on 'c:/music/'.

I download video file (usually .avi XViD).

I convert to a iPhone compatible file via handbrake (using the iPhone preset), and output the file to 'c:/music/automatically add to iTunes/'.

iTunes automatically adds video file as a movie.

I go into iTunes and change the info on the new video to make it a TV Show and set the season and episode number. This moves it into the TV Shows section and groups it with any existing videos for that show/season.

I then sync in the iPhone, and it copies over the earliest 3 unwatched for each show (based on my sync settings).

I'm then able to watch the show on my iPhone and once watched it marks the video as watched the next time I sync, replacing it with an unwatched episode (if one exists).

..........

What I'd like to be able to do is just copy the downloaded file into a folder on the WHS box and leave it to do the 'magic' on the file, leaving me with:
1. An iphone compatible video in iTunes. If it can also automatically sort out the tags to make it a tv show and set the season/episode then that'd be great.
2. A full resolution video file that is served to a Vista MCE for viewing on a TV

Is this possible, or do I need to adjust my habits?

I am reviewing some old posts this evening and do not see any closure on this one... Did your problem get resolved, questions answered? If not please reply and we'll try to respond a little quicker!

just grab the avi from your favorite torrent site and put it in your D:\share\Video folder.
watch it within your home network via Twonky or some other means,
watch it on your iPhone with a little piece of software called "AirVideo"

Airvideo will transcode any video media in realtime to your iPhone over the air.
no syncing, no multiple files on your server.
