One of my 750Gb hard drives died. I need to replace it, but the prices online are outrageous. My good drive is a WD Caviar Black 750Gb drive. Where can I get the best deal on another?

I have buying all my drives lately from Microcenter in the USA. I am not sure where your located but they are selling 1 TB WD Blacks for $89.99 USD. http://microcenter.com/product/331606/C ... FAEX_-_OEM

These drives come with a 5 yr warranty so if you registered the drive or have the original receipt if you did not register the drive and its less than 5 yrs old then you can get it replaced by Western Digital. If you do not have the receipt and did not register the drive then the warranty would be in effect from the date of manufacture on the drive + 5 yrs.

I am located in Georgia and know where I can find Microcenter. Since my existing drive is 750Gb and the drive you mentioned is 1Tb, will that cause any problems? I did see a 750Gb WD Caviar Black drive just like the one I have in my system, but it is a refurb with only a 90 day warranty.

Refurbished Hard Drives are kind of a gamble especially when you see how Microcenter puts them on the shelf which is often in a big Plastic Box which you know gets thrown around but everyone. If the Refurbished Hard Drive is packaged in an OEM Box then its a different story.

Going with a new WD Black gives you a 5 yr warranty which to me is piece of mind. Now I tend to like the Microcenter in Duluth because there is also a Frys Electronics and many other stores to find computer parts in that area. I do go to the Marietta Store too and they are not all that far apart from each other.

Is it okay to mix the size of the drives in my server? My existing drive is 750Gb and I was thinking of adding a 1Tb to replace the bad one.

Yes that's one of the nice things about WHS. You can install hard drives up to 2 TB in size they can also be from different manufactures.
