Hi all in the forum,

first I'm from Germany and I should like to apologize in advance for my bad English in my question!

AS secondly of all I want my body thanks to the operators and activists in this forum to express!
I look very often in this forum and the posts were always helpful for me.

I have been running for about 3 years the HP Data Vault X510 server up with the WHS V1 operating system and for about 1.5 years with the WHS2011 operating system.
Now it is time for the hardware of the Data Vault X510 spice things up. I will use as the 4GB of RAM memory module from G.Skill and would like to present Pentium E5200 processor to replace the 2.5GHz to 3.2GHz Pentium E5800 processor on the board. The technical data are identical.

Someone has already done a similar conversion?
What should I watch because of the processor tag?
Is either / If a bios update necessary?
Does it work the way I've been there before?

The Data Vault X510 is available in the future as it did in the past for both the client's file and backup server and also as a media server (Twonky Media Server for DLNA is already installed) for the family. I hope that this measure has a slight performance gain. However, the craft engines plays a certain role. In the end, however, it should work.

About feedback I would be very happy and very much in advance THANK YOU for this!

Yes, I have done what you are looking to do.
I don't know that the ram helps that much, but I did it anyway. The E5800 is perfect, not to hot, but helps kick things up a bit.
Goodluck and enjoy, be careful when you pull up on the backplane to hard, some have knocked caps off.

No need to change anything, make sure you use good heatsink grease and I think just a reboot will do it, everything will work as before, just a little quicker.
It's not a huge change but I would do it again.
I tried the E6800 but it was just a little to hot for me. the 5800 was cooler then the stock cpu, that was unexpected.

Hi there,

here's the promised follow-up to rebuild my HP X510 Data Vault!

The system is now running again, although it must be shoveled some data to the server with the conversion but as far as I'm through. With the performance gain, I am very satisfied! To the CPU and the memory I wanted to obstruct a fast Seagate Constellation CS as a system disk. This did not work out. I think it was the driver compatibility. After several attempts I have the WD Green hard drive used as a system disk again and the system could be put on easily.
It was worth it!

At the site thanks again to!

Awesome to hear. I knew you would like the extra boost, plus I think it will stay cooler which should help it live longer.
I have never found a drive that would not work in one of these servers, as long as they were 2tb or less, but I know there were some drives that needed a jumper to make them run correctly.

As long as you have an extra drive on the shelf (you will need it sooner or later) install the SMART free addin to keep an eye on the drives and I use 1 non-pooled drive to backup all my shares.

Glad you upgrade went well, shout out if you have a need, this is an awesome place to find lots of cool info.
