I have an EX490 running WHS v1 and one of my drives went bad. I put everything aside for a few years and I didn't use the EX490. I was doing some cleaning up and I found this drive and not realizing it I inadvertently formatted the drive. Right now, I am able to see a DE folder but no subfolders worth of data. There is data on this drive. I understand I should have not formatted the drive and left it alone.

If I put the drive back into the server and not add it to the drive pool do I have any chance to recover the data off this drive? I would like the data to be intact, if possible. I would like to copy the data off of this drive.

when viewing a drive connected to a pc.
You need to enable view hidden files and folders in windows explorer.
If you can see the de folder then possibly you really did not format it.

I can see this folder structure.

DE folder
---Shares
---- Folder with weird numbers and letters
-----Folder with other weird numbers and letters

---Folder
----James
-----Desktop.ini

That is all I see on this drive. Again, I know there is data on this drive which I may have to use a recovery software to retrieve the data.

If you had other drives in the server and data duplication was enabled, you might find what your looking for on the secondary drives...
