I have an old EX490 that I just got out and installed whs 2011 on. Everything is fine but only the bottom blue hard drive is lit though there are drives in the bottom to slots. I have installed the 2 drivers necessary to get lights to work. Been so long since I messed with these should every slot with a hard drive in light up after installing whs 2011. They all showed drives with whs V1. Any suggestions. Not sure how much this forum is watched anymore but hopefully someone has a suggestion. Thanks in advance.

Well I just figured it out but not sure why. Even though the hard drive that was not showing up in the light it was working fine. I put a different hd in the same slot and the blue hd light is on. Who knows.

All I can say is even with whs1 sometimes the leds take a long time to lite up after a reboot or sometimes the led will not come on at all till you reboot again.
And most people have issues with the led on other than whs1

Yes, the LED trickery with 2011 was lacking at best, it was one of the two reasons why I switched back to whs v1.
The Lights barely worked and I did not care for the new console was the second reason.
But, getting to use larger hard drives would be really be cool.
If whs v1 stops working, I might give 2011 a try again, I grabbed two copies while they were on sale :-)

I can't say I have had any problems with the LED's on whs v1 but I know all the lights are a bit on the slow side.
The one problem I do have since my server sleeps every night, is about once a month it will wakeup and have file conflicts. I re-boot it and everything goes back to normal. I won't see this happens for awhile and then one morning I will see a red console icon and it has done it again.
Good Luck with that new 2011 and enjoy.

Thanks for the reply. I absolutely love the mediasmart servers. I have had several different models since they came out and before that I had one with only two trays that looked the same only shorter, can't remember what they were called. Been thinking of buying a Hp Microserver but no real need other than I like to mess with things. It's only for home use. My EX490 does everything I need a home server to do.
