Hi, i puchased one of these second hand and it had only two disks, the Sever Recovery and PC Recovery disks(both Ver 1.1 Rev 1). Im having to put black HDD's into this unit as it also didnt have any (undertandable). Anyway does one require the Software Installation disk to get this working and if so where can i find a copy of it? I havent rang Acer yet but i know that might be worth a try also.

If its like my EX470 i might not need this disk but knowing my luck i will!

Hopefully you found a solution by now, but if not I'd just pick up a copy of WHS 2011 and bypass the wonky WHS v1 recovery procedures (for Acer or HP)

The solution i found was to purchase another HP MSS instead (EX490 with RAM, CPU upgrade and debug cable), as the Acer just seemed so screwed big time, the HP recovery i find is much easier and is a working system. That system ended up being my main server and the older EX470 ended up being passed onto my mum.

The one nice thing about the Acer Easystore H340 is it has a PCI 1x slot for expandability. As I recall hardware wise the H340 and the EX470 are similar in that both motherboards were made by Winstron and both use a hidden area on the motherboard called a SMI for booting the server into recovery mode.

You only need 2 disks for any server in all reality because the client software can be downloaded and installed from the server using http://server_name:55000

While I am not certain what Acer used for the actual default server name it can be found on the routers DHCP Listing once WHS has been installed.

I can't comment on how well it functions but I like that it can be expanded.

May I ask what was the issue with restore on the EasyStore which made it impossible?

Yeah it wouldnt boot into the restore mode, when it did (about 1 out of 20 tries) it progressed with the restore then failed. At the moment it a heavy paperweight... I may conider using it for some other purpose one day.

Are you looking to get rid of the Easystore? How much would you want for it?

Hi all, Just read this thread… I have an H340 I would like to get rid of, and I have the complete DVD set (3). It works perfectly. I used it in my office, and it is now closed, so if interested, just PM me. I can include a 500Go Hdd as system drive, or none. I'm located in Canada. I can ship either Canada or USA.

Thanks,

Claude

Hi, thanks for the offer to get rid, but i think the offer from msdcinfo would be better as i dont think its worth sending it from the UK. I may consider if anyone in the UK wants to take this off my hands

This is a bit of an old topic to drag up but though this may help those with bad disks or in the need of replacements for their Acer, Someone has kindly placed them on their onedrive! As these are available I am going to try to get my paperweight going and working as a possible space WHS if require or flog on the bay...
