:boxster: I read an article about upgrading the 1GB memory DIMM in the LX195 to 2GB. A 2GB stick these days costs about $50 ... so is it worth in terms of any performance gain to upgrade the memory? :boxster:

I think that most of us agree that 2GB is a worthwhile upgrade. Even though the LX195 is a "junior" version of the other HP MSS units, the functions performed are basically the same.

You could RDP to the unit, fire up the Task Manager and monitor your memory usage. I'll bet it is exceeding 1GB -- or getting very close.

It's possible to upgrade beyond 2gb ram?, may be 4gb? or we have limitations only to 2gb?

I'm running vail and I too am interested in upgrading to 4gb ddr2 6400 or ddr2 5300.

I've successfully upgraded to 2gb ddr2 5300.

I recently found a good deal on a 4gb stick of ddr2 5300 and tried it but the lx195 will not boot. It turns on and hangs with a red health light.

Does anyone know if it possible to run 4gb? Perhaps I have a back stick or maybe should be using ddr2 6400.

Some of the specs for the lx195 say 4gb max and other say 3gb max. However, finding a single stick of 3gb is very difficult. Also, some specs say the type of ram needs to be (HP's website included) ddr 5300. However, the original HP ram I removed from the unit was ddr2 6400. Are these two types interchangeable?

I purchased the following RAM upgrade for my LX-195, but now it seems the server fails to start: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6820145180.

I also noticed that the old stick of RAM was actually 6400, rather than 5300. This shouldn't be a problem. I'm currently building a VGA cable so that I can debug why it won't work.

The server powers on, but throws absolutely no error codes. I checked the official specifications for error indicators. My server simply shows the power light as blue. The other lights aren't flashing any color at all. It's almost like it's failing to get to BIOS. It could simply be a bad stick of RAM. I'll know as soon as my 26-pin PCB connector arrives in a couple of days!

We stuck a 2gb stick (came from my ex487) in my parents lx195 and it did not boot. red health at first but a few power cycles and it eventually booted. I think to took at least 4 maybe more before it booted as normal. All it did was act like it was booting but never did and of course without any display we had no idea what was going on. But, in the end it worked.
