Hi StefFJay,

If I haven't said it before, thanks for your previous help.

I've currently got my order for caddies in with Ripcaster (https://www.ripcaster.co.uk/node/483 listed at the bottom of the page) they have managed to supply me with one previously (pretty much a test on my part as I'd never heard of them before) took them around a week to let me know it was being shipped and turned up a couple of days later. Current order was placed last Tuesday and I haven't heard that it's been shipped yet (they haven't charged my card either though).

Hope that helps.

Can you post a picture of the caddies you purchased from the site you listed? I may want to order a couple myself.

I have sent a request to info@ripcaster.co.uk to inquire about the caddies they are selling. When I receive a reply I will let everyone know. In the mean time if you would like to send them email also requesting information please feel free to do so.

Got a reply back from the vender today which is posted below:

Hello Bruce,

Thank you for your enquiry....

We had a surplus of HP Mediasmart drive caddies - but unfortunately our current stock has now been exhausted.

Many thanks

Jon Nelson

Unfortunately no real information about where they came from or a picture

Hi guys,

Sorry for not getting back to people, I got my WHS up and running using a USB copy of the recovery and have been too "Busy" playing!

Firstly, thanks to everyone for their help and advise especially Comp1962 and Yakuza.

Secondly, the feedback that other people seem to getting regarding ripcaster seems to back up my hesitance in recommending them as a source of caddies; I recieved no feedback from when I initially enquired prior to purchasing my first caddy, there was a weeks delay between my order being placed and communication saying it was shipped, and I am still, after 2+ weeks, awaiting any communication regarding my second order.

the caddy I have does the job, I couldn't say if it's an orginal HP part or not,.
- It's fairly lightweight plastic
- The front fascia certainly looks as all those I have seen in images.
- The HDD is held in place by 4 studs or threadless bolts, two rigidly mounted the opposite two are on flexible plastic sections that allow the drive to be mounted.
- The front has a lever that locks the caddy to the chassis when pushed down.

As I say if ti's not the real deal, it certainly does the job, and the price seemed reasonible, supply seems the only issue.

I'll see if I can get a picture uploaded.

Yes a picture would be interesting. Unfortunately your supplier is currently out of stock from the email reply I got back from them. I will tell you they did answer my email within 24 hours.

Yakusa or Comp1962: I have a similar problem. I think I ruined my smi flash in attempting to install v3 onto my previously healthy ex470. Long story but at this point, I cannot find my server or get into recovery mode. My health indicator is flashing 1 blue, 4 red or 1 blue, 5 red (it does both depending on how I start the server). however after much reading of the forums I believe i have lost my ability to boot due to smi damage.
I am confused about where I can find these smi files to get my server into recovery mode? Can you provide a step by step instruction or point me to such files? I lost my disks but I believe I have a copy of the v1 recovery files that were on the server. Also i have a v3 iso that someone from another forum let me download...which led to this problem!

Hi jcoleky,

Can you with the power off on the server just back out the hard drives and disconnect any USB Devices. Then simply turn the server on and observe the health light to see if you get the same results with 1 Blue - 4 or 5 Red Blinks or does it blink purple and red.

If the server health light does not blink purple and red then send me a Private Message.

If it blinks purple and red then logon to your router and check the DHCP Listing for a device with the name MININT followed by other things appears. If so then your SMI is functional. Just follow the instructions below and let me know how you make out.

(1) Insert all your storage pool drives. Leave the system drive backed out.
(2) Connect the eSATA Device if used
(3) Connect all USB Devices but make certain there are no bootable devices connected to the bottom rear USB Port better if you connect nothing to this port.
(4) Turn the server on and when you see the health light blink purple/red plug in the System Drive.
(5) Run the Server Recovery Program and be very very patient. The server would already be in recovery mode so no need to press that Status/Reset button in with a paper clip.

Good Luck and lets hope things work out this go around.
