Thanks ALex -- and thanks for this great site. I hope I found all of the files I wanted. The factory reset worked great. ... Now I have to poke around for your recommended add-ins. thanks

I am having a similar problem as described where the final "update" in the connector (after naming the server and setting passwords) fails after a repair, can't connect via a connector after that, can connect via RDP, but backup services isn't running. However, I tried a factory restore and had the exact same problem. I even tried three different hard drives, each with either a repair or a factory restore. It's almost like the HP software wasn't installing and configuring WHS correctly. Any other suggestions? I'm about to toss my ex495 out the window.

I wanted to thank everyone on this post for all of the good replies. My Home Server has sat idle for a couple of years as many cloud backup solutions have become available. With the recent purchase of new hardware for the house I wanted to bring my backup solution closer to home and create more redundancy. I've got three new machines with Windows 8 Pro 64-bit and I really have been struggling for three days getting just the first machine setup to talk to my WHS w/PP3. The server has been updated with all the latest MS patches and nothing is available from HP either. When I tried to run the 'setup.exe' (datestamp 10/7/2009) for the 'WHSConnector_x64.msi' I was continually getting this error in the event viewer:

Windows Home Server protocol mismatch. This computer uses protocol version 6.0.3436.0, but partner computer servername uses protocol version 6.0.2423.0. A connection cannot be established.

I tried every solution offered on this forum and other sites to no avail, with the exception of one. One a whim, having thrown everything else at the issue I renamed my HPServer. Upon reboot of the server when I ran the 'setup.exe' (datestamp 10/7/2009) for the 'WHSConnector_x64.msi' on the first machine it worked. The other two new machines followed suit.

I wanted to post this solution here as I've been confounded for days and if anyone else runs into this issue hopefully this helps.

Thanks,

Randy
