Sounds like it's time for a warranty replacement.

FWIW I got hit by the firmware bug affecting one of my 500gb 7200.11 drives... and managed to recover the drive and its data following this guide.

You'll need to scavenge a nokia CA-42 cable (though I managed with a DKU-5 and a pair of AA batteries added to the circuit)... not for the faint of heart but worth the effort imo. This guide to accessing the console on buffalo arm9 routers features good instructions on scavenging, preparing and testing the actual cable.

The hardest part is getting the wiring working (& tested before use), the actual procedure takes just minutes.

If anyone needs help with setting up the wiring or the procedure feel free to PM or better yet start a thread in the Help & Support forum...

Flattery!

I just followed instructions and connected the dots... a forgotten art perhaps...

...but seriously anyone can do it with enough time, patience, the right tools, and in this case, odds & ends lying around the house.
Thanks just the same though -- you made my day :cheers:

HP26 is the latest which fixes the bug - not sure how you would apply it to the mediasmart pc though...

Just want to update the link to the HP firmware.
I clicked on the quoted one and brought me to a download page with nothing to download lol :lol:
It's listed under the TouchSmart PC but that's fine. In the download description it lists the models of Hard Drives this is aimed at.

My WHS2011 system on EX487 was failing to reboot. I bought the VGA debug cable and found out that one of my Seagate ST3750630AS with firmware version HP24 had died. I could not revive the drive. Both Seagate and HP did not grant a RMA. HP warranty ends after 1 year and Seagate do not RMA the OEM drives.

There is a new formware releaced by HP version 26A. Here is the link for the download
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp;jsessionid=Mv26TRMhfylN29Z9MkCtXjvzS3ZDyHDkRWmcvChzhs8QBPjrYVW9!1246391827?swItem=wk-91921-1&swLang=13&swEnvOID=2025&prodNameId=1844975&lang=en&cc=us&mode=2&&prodTypeId=12454&prodSeriesId=3432827

System came with two of these drives. I updated the firmware on the second drive immediately. I wish I had known about the new HP firmware earlier.
