Hi guys. A friend gave me an HP MediaSmart Server.

I've formatted the drives as I wish to install FreeNAS, and have a few issues.#

I have the Health LED flashing red/blue, and I understand that this means BIOS failure.

How do I reset/repair the BIOS?

Also, I think I read somewhere on this site that you can plug a VGA monitor in to the server, so you can see what you're doing during installation. I couldn't find any VGA port on the server.

I've read that you can install over the network by viewing the server in a browser. I've messed around with the device and network settings on my Windows 10 machine to get it "visable" in the browser. I've read that you need to find the device's IP address, then put this into the browser. I've looked on my network for IP adresses, but I can't find one attached to a name such as HP MediaSmart Server, for example. What IP addresses I do find, when I put them into a browser, all I get is "unable to find address" or something like that. I don't get FreeNAS booting up from the USB memory stick inserted into the bottom USB port on the back, as I've read online.

If any of you can help me please, it would be greatfully appreciated

your going to need a debug board to get to the bios.
It is a device you connect to the motherboard.
try this guide
http://www.mediasmartserver.net/2011/06 ... rt-server/
it is not freenas but it does explain how to install non native os. It also uses the debug board.
You can get it in the market place forum.
to open the server try this guide

No, if all the drives are blank, the blinking lights are normal, they are indicating the server is going into recovery mode, if you had the CD's to do so.
I don't believe they are flashing for the bios.

And second what (Ruben Rocha) on the Adapter.
Once you get that attached to the motherboard then you can see what you are doing and put just about any OS on it as long as you can get drivers.

Good Luck
