Post subject:  EX470 HDD confusion

Hello everyone,
i am using mediasmart server ex470. its OS was corrupted and it was on recovery mode.
few days ago i moved server to another place. while doing this, i removed all drives includes system drive.
so i have to do system recovery but i am not sure which drive is system dirve so i can recover all of my data.
I would like to hear your opinions. I am very out of options.

very simple.
But you need a way to connect the drive to a pc.
Once done open file explorer and turn on view hidden files and folders.
Your system drive will have two partitions one for the c: and one for D:Data.
Of course when you connect it to a existing pc they will have different drive letters.
The pool drives will have only one partition or drive.
In fact you don't even need to turn on hidden items unless you want to see the files.

Once done put the system drive in the bottom bay with the lock
The pool drives don't matter which bay they are in as long as you put all of them back in the server before starting a recovery.

But before you start down that road when you have them connected to your pc run a chkdsk to see if one of the drives are bad.
I think you may have a bad drive that caused the problem.

If you don't you are good to go.

If not then other steps to do.

Easiest way to tell (and it will come in handy later) is get a usb to sata dock, Place each drive in one at a time, your system drive will have a small and large partition. The other drives will not have a partition.
The other drives can be in any slot, but you are correct, the system drive needs to be in that bottom bay.

Hope this helps, shout back if you are unsure how to perform or have problems with the recovery.

And Yes, all drives should be in place when you perform a recovery (not factory reset).
