Hi folks, I have had MANY years of service from my WHS EX470, but during a recent power outage, but WHS crashed, and didn't come back. Here are the symptoms: - Several (as in countless) boot attempts. - Front panel lights (L to R): #1) Blue solid #2) Blue solid #3) White then Red then Blue flashing (forever) - No drive lights Other than a few hiccups (had to reset all my backups two years ago), this thing has ran like a champ for many years. I'm hoping get some help. Could the bios battery be dead? Does anybody know what battery this takes? I have not tried to do a Factory Recovery yet. Thanks PCR |

Well, the good news is that I found the CMOS battery: It's a CR2032 if anybody is interested, and I did change it with a fresh battery. (Instructions: http://www.mediasmartserver.net/2009/09 ... -hardware/) The bad news is that the Health light (#3) is still just flashing blue. Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated. |

Alright, now we're having fun. After an amazing discovery of my 3 WHS disks in a box of misc CD's from the past few decades, I fired off the Server Recovery disk on my LT. (Instructions: http://www.mediasmartserver.net/wiki/in ... ecovery%3F) Doh! After running through the first part of the process, and waiting for the OS to download to my server, I get an interesting message. Apparently, the installation process does not run on Windows 10. It has restarted in Compatibility Mode, and I am going through the entire process again. Hopefully, it will be successful running in Compatibility mode. Err |

Here is a quick update. I was able to find a old Windows XP laptop and was able to go through the Server Recovery process. Ugh, it was sloooow... It eventually installed, and rebooted. I was able to RDP into the server, and I have connected a spare HDD via USB, and I am in the process of backing up all of my data. I finally called it quits at 4AM to get a few hours of sleep. When I left for work at 830AM, it was still copying. Hopefully all the data will copy clean on my my USB HDD. |

I keep an old XP laptop (it will not take win7, no drivers) just for doing the server restores. I have copied the contents of the two CD's into folders on the desktop (so it doen't have to come from the cd-rw drive) makes it a little faster. It seems to take about 30-60 mins. to load then about the same time to get the 3 HP patches and The 170 windows updates +/-. Glad to hear you were able to revive it. I have my server sleep every night so one of these days I most likely will be looking at a battery. Thanks for the info and much Good Luck to you. I have about 2 tb of data and the last factory reset and copyback took all night. But at least it works still. |
