I have a been running my EX470 for almost 6 years, 24/7, with no problems. Recently, the little box that could has been shutting down without notice. I restart the computer, get all blue lights (health and drives), fans running normally, and within 1 to 2 minutes of starting up it will shutdown with no warning. I removed the hard drives and checked them on another computer and they are fine. I have been running Alex's fan add-in since day-one so my CPU and system temperatures are all within spec. It did stay up long enough onetime for me to check the system logs to see if there was any warning messages; nothing.

I did upgrade the CPU (LE-1640) and RAM 5 years ago but there has not been any problems until now. Reviewing the board for similar problems it looks like my PSU is starting to fail. Before I purchase a new one from OverTek I wanted to get a second opinion from the group.

Thanks in advanced for your help.....

It sounds like a PSU problem to me as well. You could remove the PSU and test it to see if it will stay running or not but I would connect it to a power strip with a switch so you can turn it on and off after installing the jumper to force the PSU to turn on. You can also look at the 40mm PSU fan to see if its spinning. If the PSU overheats it will shut itself down.

Review the following info on the PSU to test it out: http://www.mediasmartserver.net/wiki/in ... wer_Supply

I also have conversion cables to allow you to convert a standard PSU to properly power an MSS. There are 2 PSU Suppliers both on eBay which sell good replacement PSU's for the MSS, they are Overtek LTD and KDM Power both PSU's are of better quality then the HIPRO PSU and both are direct replacement. KDM recently revised their PSU to eliminate the conversation cable but the current cable is a bit over 2" longer then the stock PSU so you would need to tuck the wires in a bit. They maybe revising this to shorten the length but if you opt to order one from KDM Power you should inquire about this before ordering. The one from OverTek will have the proper length and will run fine actually I have both PSU's from Overtek and KDM and am very happy with them.
