... And I'm quite disappointed to see in the control panel says only 3.34GB of memory is usable by the OS :(

I was under the impression that having a 64 bit (Windows 2012 Essentials) would mean that I wouldn't have such limitation.

Is there any way I can overcome this? Perhaps with a BIOS setting or hack?

Just though that people should know about this.

Cheers,
P.

Umm... thanks for that and sorry for the double post! Going through the checklist, the only issues I can think of are:

[*]The socket of the CPU in the EX470. Does anyone know which socket does this server use?
[*]The BIOS remapping feature. I think this will be the big issue here. Unless the BIOS has this option (will check this evening) or if the BIOS is ever hacked to add this option, then I don't see this happening :(

Does anyone know beforehand if the BIOS of the EX470 supports the remapping feature?

Cheers,
P.

I believe the Socket is an AM2 not a BIOS expert so for that I will defer to others.

So... I set my VGA cable and had a look in the BIOS. Curiously there is a DRAM configuration (down, down, enter, enter), which shows the following options:

Timing Mode [Auto]
DQS Training Control [Skip DQS]
CKE base power down mode [Enabled]
CKE based powerdown [Per Channel]
Memclock tri-stating [Disabled]
Memory Hole Remapping [Enabled]
Bottom of UMA DRAM [31:24] [FC]

So I did enable the memory hole option but after booting windows 2012 I noticed no change in the amount of memory available. :(

Also the BIOS POST screen says:
Main Processor : AMD Processor model unknown , 2 CPUs
Memory Testing : 3506176 OK + 32M shared memory
CPU0 Memory information: DDR2 6667 Single Channel, 64-Bit ,1T

Any thoughts on this?

Cheers,
P.

What processor are you running in your EX470? I am thinking about installing 4GB of RAM in an EX470 I am working on at which time I can take a closer look at the RAM utilization. Not really sure I can get it to utilize all the RAM or not but its worth looking into.

Quote:
On a computer that is running Windows 7, the usable memory (RAM) may be less than the installed memory.

For example, a 32-bit version of Windows 7 may report that there is only 3.5 GB of usable system memory on a computer that has 4 GB of memory installed.

Or, a 64-bit version of Windows 7 may report that there is only 7.1 GB of usable system memory on a computer that has 8 GB of memory installed.

Note The amount of usable memory in the examples are not exact amounts. Usable memory is a calculated amount of the total physical memory minus "hardware reserved" memory.

To view the installed memory and the usable memory in Windows 7, follow these steps:1.Click Start

Start button, right-click Computer, and then click Properties.
2.View the Installed memory (RAM) value under System. For example, if it displays 4.00 GB (3.5 GB usable), this means that you have 3.5 GB of usable memory out of 4 GB of installed memory.

From Microsoft support.

I've uploaded some CPU-Z screenshots but I can't remember the exact name of the CPU I got....

Have you tried going to the BIOS and setting the memory hole remap option to enable? That option is supposed to fix this issue ](*,)

Thanks! I'll certainly give it a try tonight. I've attached the correct BIOS page. :sanjuan: Are the other options similar to yours?

So I switched Memory Hole Remapping to Enable. Still has 3.34GB usable.

:( :( :(

Perhaps it is a CPU issue... dunno. Some people say that messing with the advanced boot options in msconfig.exe tends to solve the issue. But I wouldn't keep my hopes up.
