I have an EX470 and the specs stat that the nic can do 1000 Mbps. Awesome right, nope! My box is only connecting at 100 Mbps not 1000. All my other devices work just fine and connect at 1000 Mbps but the EX470. I've tried Windows Home Server and Ubuntu Server and they both say the same thing. Any ideas as to why it is doing this? Could it some how be Ubuntu? I can change OS but I would really like to stay w/ a Linux OS. I'm totally stumped. Thank you for all your help and ideas in advance.

Hi Kennett welcome to the forums!!

Sometime its the actual network cable that can cause a drop in speed. If your trying to protect your NIC by connecting it to a UPS its important to note that not all UPS's support gigabit and so the connection speed will be reduced. Its also important that the server be connected to a gigabit device otherwise you will get slower connection speeds.

I would test the servers network cable with a known working gigabit device to see if when connected to that cable if its still running 1000 Mbps or not and also try disconnecting other devices from where the server connects and see if the speed improves but also try changing the port to see if the port on the switch or router is the cause of the drop of speed.

Its basically process of elimination.

I've tried several network cables that I know work. It appears that Ubuntu doesn't like the network card in my EX470. Is anyone else running Ubuntu on their EX470? If so is the NIC drivers giving you a hard time also?

While your waiting for an answer from others you might want to check for Linux Drivers for the SIS190/191 NIC.

I've checked the drivers but I'm not very good with Linux at the moment. I did locate this site with a fix. But I'm unsure as how to apply the info.

Have you tried performing a Site Search for Linux as others have installed one version or another on the EX470. Its one of the first posts I recall reading on this site other then when one forum member actually disabled his NIC and back then the corrective action was to perform a recovery but with the help of some very dedicated forum members he was able to get his NIC working again without performing a recovery.

Thing about installing an OS that's the hardware can run but is not really designed for because of it being headless is always a challenge. With a Debug Cable it opens up a whole new world of possibilities and makes installing any other OS a very easy process not to mention troubleshooting issues. When you need to make changes to the BIOS its possible. Working Blind is not a good thing in all situations but if you lose your NIC then your dead in the water with a headless system and the point here is resoling issues with the lose of NIC Connectivity is extremely hard.
