The WHS SMART add-in saved my bacon last night. I successfully remove my failing WD 2 TB Green HDD and replaced it with an older used 1 TB drive.

Can I purchase any 2TB HDD and pop it stright into my EX470? I thought I remembered reading that there were issues with the way newer drives were configured. But I can't find the posts.

New Egg has the Seagate Barracuda STBD2000101 2TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive for $89.99 today. This is more of a stop-gap measure until I build a 2012 Essentials server.

Thanks for your help. This forum has been a huge help to me (and my family).

Steve

A search on "Advanced format drives" will turn up everything you need to know, here's a great starting point.

Thanks yakuza,

Knowing what key words to search makes all the difference.

Hopefully I can find a WD drive and set jumpers 7 and 8.
