Greetings! New to the forum but old to HP MediaSmart servers as you see from the title. I'm maxed out right now on capacity and need to add. My question is can I use a WD Elements 3TB USB or do I need to stay under the 2TB limit for internal drives? Thanks!

As an addendum, I'm looking at eSata port multipliers. Any thoughts on that would be appreciated as well.

I recently added a two bay eSATA enclosure to my EX470 MSS, the Mediasonic HUR1-SU3S2. I had been looking at the ProBox HF2-SU3S2 but decided that 2 bays was adequate for my needs. Just make sure you do NOT use any HDD larger than 2TB with the MSS. It would actually power off my MSS as soon as I powered on my enclosure with a 3TB drive installed in the Mediasonic.

Interesting! So the 2TB limit is for internal HDDs only? I was also thinking of getting a WD Elements in 3TB as those are inexpensive but hesitated because of the 2TB limit.

Nope, that was a typo on my part ... nothing larger than a 2TB drive .. I will edit and correct my post.

Ah! Many thanks! Typos happen. In that case I think I'll go with an internal 2TB drive. Whenever this server does finally give up the ghost I can recycle the drives to whatever comes next. I use WD Enterprise drives so they should be around a long time.

I like it fine. It's got a small footprint and sits nicely atop the MSS. I've only got a single 2TB drive in it. It was easy to set up. No muss no fuss. I bought it because of Alex's write up from 2010. It's got a great fan on it. You can set it to automatic or two manual settings.
