Has anyone successfully used the HP Photosmart 3180 Printer with the HP EX470 MediaSmart Server?

I followed the directions in the tutorial for sharing a printer on myhomeserver.com but do not get prompted to enter a location for the printer driver as per those instructions. Is there an alternate way to enable the printer?

Please advise if you have installed this printer successfully. Thank you.

I do not use that printer I have a

HP 1020
Epson Stylus Photo R280

I plugged them into my MSS RDP'd into it and installed drivers. I test printed from MSS.

Went to each of my PC's and added a network printer and browsed for them and connected each one and test printed from each PC. All is working fine this way.

I have a different printer but here is what I did:

THE MISSING LINK HAS BEEN FOUND...

So here is the entire process I had to do thanks for the replies and suggestions:

Connect the printer to the server
Extract the installer package into a file folder and get it to the desktop of the server. ( I had the disk that came with the printer so it was easy for me to do from my laptop)
Remote Desktop onto server
Right click the file folder and select properties
select unblock and close the properties box
Go to the file folder that you created and open setup.exe
The install will fail, When that fails, hit cancel

MISSING LINK...
Right click my computer
select manage
select device manager
The printer will show up under other devices with a yellow question mark
double click that
go to the drivers tab
select update driver
select install from list or specfic location radio buttom then hit next
check the box that says include this location
browse to the location on the desktop that you extracted the installer files to
hit next
it will think a while and then will either ask you to pick a printer (mine showed 2 selection with one green check marked) or the install will complete
If the list of a few options pops up hit next or finish(can't remeber what button shows up)
Send a test print
Do cartwheels of joy after figuring all this out after 2 late nights after work of trying.

Now I may have missed a thing or 2 on this since i did it last night and didn't have a chance to post until this morning but I think it is complete.

Again thanks to all for the helpful suggestions. I will definitely being using this forum for support in the future. I hope this post helps out someone else.

r6vr6, Thanks for the details. I will try that.

copc, "...I plugged them into my MSS RDP'd into it and installed drivers."

WHS appears to recognize the printer as a storage device(!) when I plug it in. It does not prompt me to install drivers.

How did you install the drivers? Should I try "Add a printer" or should I just find the device and try "Update Driver..."?

Please advise. Thanks!

it should see it as a printer, but if you install a printer per the directions of software. It will tell you to run the software at a point it will ask you to plug the printer and power it up.

I have done that as well as just plugging in the printer and installing drivers after the plugin.

I tried updating the printer driver using "Update driver" but I believe it is looking for a device information (?) file. Here is what I did to place the printer drivers on the MediaSmart Server.

On my local computer I selected Properties for the printer. I then selected About and saw a listing of the Driver files. I searched for them on my local computer and they were all located in the following folder.
C:\WINDOWS\system32\spool\drivers\w32x86\hpphotosmart_c3100_s4080

I copied the contents of this folder into a subfolder in the Software folder on the MediaSmart server. I browsed to the subfolder I created when I selected "Update driver."

I am certainly not copying the right files over. Any relevant advise on locating the appropriate files/folders to copy from my computer to MediaSmart Server?
