Hi,
Can you please provide me with the correct AMD part number to upgrade my HP EX470.

The following article hxxt://www.homeserverhacks.com/2008/03/ ... -with.html is writing about 2.6GHz AMD LE-1640 Orleans (45W) but no part number is included. The CPU link leads to Amazon, what seem to be the wrong CPU, yet showing model number: ADH1640DHBOX. Then this link http://www.amazon.com/Athlon-64-LE-1640 ... B0012MEH0E what looks like the correct CPU but uses the same model number as the one mentioned above.

I have a chance to pick up one of this CPU ADH1640IAA4DP or ADH1640IAA5DH with or without the fan (the specs look the same as described). I was wondering if either one is acceptable to upgrade my EX470?

Thanks in advance for your input.

All of the known CPU's that will work in an EX470 are listed in this post:

viewtopic.php?f=2&t=12176

The LE-1640's known to work are -Athlon 64 LE-1640 Orleans ADH1640DHBOX ADH1640IAA5DH 2.6GHz @ 45W & 90nm F3 Core Stepping

So the second one you listed is known stable but the ADH1640IAA4DP is a 2.7GHz part that has a 1.25Vcore and known to be unstable. If you check out this e-bay auction. If you check out this ebay auction, you'll find that the unit she is selling has an -Athlon X2 3800+ Windsor ADD3800IAA5C EE SFF 2.0Ghz @ 35W & 90nm F2 Core Stepping, which at $50 for the BIN price and she told me $15 shipping in the US ($60 to Canada or I would have already bought it). It is a dual core 35W part and definitely a more desirable upgrade option.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/270957645734?ss ... 1423.l2649

Umm by the way, the proc in that HP slimline box is probably worth 3 times the BIN price.

Good luck!

Just a heads up on the ways to sometimes get lucky in the search for the elusive 'ADD' 35w chips, as I recently created an advanced Ebay search that looks specifically for this:
ADD3800IAA5CU

Anytime a listing using that phrase pops up, I get an email from Ebay about its availability. Most of the time, its a price gouged X2 3800+ selling for $40 and up, but evvvvvery so often (blue moon apparently) you run across one of these that are listed as a 'Buy It Now':

Super hot deal !! I'd have bought all three but didn't want to be 'that guy' that takes 'em all while guys that need one miss out yet again. I'm glad our very own mod Comp1962 was able to grab the other two that were available. I know they will be used at some point.
