I'm curious. I have an EX470 that I've installed v2.5. on. Having said that, I've used my MSS for practically everything except computer backups, as it would be a wireless backup that would take forever. Now I've decided after a couple of crashes on the wifes laptop to use it (She was out all day yesterday with a girlfriend so I installed the connector and let it back up her 8710P with Windows 7 x64). It's daily, it is image based and aside from moving her laptop to a spot where I can plug it into the router, it should just be a bootable dvd that connects to the home server and does a bare metal restore yes? With v2.5 would my mislabelled Server Recovery Disc from v3.0 connect properly and restore as long as it has NIC drivers for her lappy? Or is there a preferred method for v2.5 Mediasmart Servers?

I've always simply used my own concoction of WinPE and Ghost for backups but I'm wondering if these scheduled backups via the MSS aren't the best way to considering once the connector is installed and the backups scheduled it's a set it and forget it deal.

Thanks!

IMHO the PC Backups are the best feature of WHS. You may want to try using the PC Recovery CD in a practice run, just to make sure it takes you far enough to connect to the server and be prompted for which backup you want to restore. You may need to download the appropriate Vista 32-bit network drivers for the laptop.

2.5 is simply the HP software version, not the WHS version, the underlying WHS is the same for all HP software releases.

Indeed, I figured this out while researching yesterday afternoon. Now having done that backup which took almost 14 hours over 802.11g I found a new x510 Locally for $300 last night. Are the backups transferable between servers I wonder?

EDIT: Found my answer here: http://www.mediasmartserver.net/2010/01 ... me-server/
