Hi all! My HP EX475 has been turning itself off from time to time. I think the power supply is going south. I saw the replacement one on ebay. But I also found this one here for only $80:

http://www.censuspc.com/product.php?productid=10736

The problem is I am not sure if this one is already modified to Mediasmart's custom pin out, or just a regular PC power supply listed as a EX47x replacement. Does anyone know? Thanks.

Your server maybe shutting itself off for another reason most commonly high CPU temp. If you upgraded the processor this is very common and one way to get around it is to install the fan control add-in available on this site from the ADD-INS TAB. The add-in is also great for keeping the stock CPU running at a lower temp as well. For more info on this add-in check out the link below:

The PSU for your server is somewhat special. Many of the PSU's on eBay are listed as replacement PSU's for your server but they are not direct replacement PSU's and will require you to modify them. For more information on this please read the sites WIKI Link below:

If modifying a PSU is not your cup of tea then there is one supplier who does sell direct replacement PSU's. I can confirm they are direct replacement PSU's because I happen to have one here. For more information on this please review the information in the link below:

Thank you for your quick reply! I did upgrade the CPU. I will install the fan control add-in to see if the problem goes away. Thanks!

It will certainly help but please do keep an eye on things for a while. Also if for some reason the problem continues then place a small fan in the front of the server to blow air into it directing it mostly to the lower portion of the enclosure.

In the mean time can you tell me which processor you upgraded to? Very few processors are known to work well with the EX47x.

I followed a guide to upgrade to AMD LE-1640 about a year after I purchased my Mediasmart EX475 when it first came out. It has been running well for a few years now. It did turn itself off once in a while. But it has started doing this more often recently.

Thanks for the advise. I will for sure keep an eye with its temperature.

Hi again. I want to follow up on this. Ever since I installed Fan Control my EX475 has not crashed once. Thanks for your advise. You saved my EX475 and me $130!
