Hello everyone,

After knowing for a while my SYS drive was close to failure, it finally happened last night. I replaced it with a new 750GB WD drive and after my first server recovery ever, I seem to be back in business.

I'm still going through the process of reinstalling/updating my add-ins and configuring to my liking.

However, there's something that's bothering me and I can't remember how to fix it.

Before the crash, if I went to http://www.SERVER.hphomeserver.com (I'm still using TZO), I was directed to the standard WHS login page. I also had whiist installed, so I was able to add links and change my picture on the site.

But now, I am being directed to HP's Webshare site (https://www.SERVER.hphomeserver.com/Webshare/) and I do not how to change this. It's been a long time since I first configured my server, so I have no recollection on how to change this. Any ideas?

Also, anyone know why I'm getting a certificate error when accessing the server site?

As usual, thank you in advance!

You can set the default landing page in the Remote Access settings tab. If you're getting a cert error, look at the message to see what it is complaining about and let us know.

Alex,

Thank you for your prompt response!

Thanks to your answer I was able to fix the issue. It was in front of me all the time... Guess it's been a while

Firefox says the certificate does not have the same name of the server (or something along those lines) and that it could potentially be a case of identity theft.

I did some research on TZO's site and it seems this is designed that way with the free .hphomeserver.com domain and that I need to get a custom domain for the error to go away.

Guess I had forgotten about that too.

Thanks again for your help, I'm glad to be back up and running.

I thought about recovering to the 3.0 update, but with all the mixed reviews I decided against it. I still have the disc in case I want to give it a shot in the future.

What name does it say is associated with the cert? I thought TZO was providing a Comodo cert, if you release and configure the DDNS name it should reissue the cert and may resolve the issue. If you want to PM me your URL I can take a look to see if I have any ideas.

As I recall the issue with the certificate error has to do with HTTP vs HTTPS and something not quite flagging it properly with the logon button. Easiest way to see this is to look at the address bar when the certificate issue appears or simply enter the site using https://yourdomainhere.com/remote then see if the certificate issue appears.

The other thing I recall is that when you use the free microsoft subdomain this issue never appears but with TZO while it works there was just something weird about that logon button function. On my primary WHS v1 server I simply got rid of that logon button and just added a link for that but it also came in handy doing that because in my case I am running multiple servers off one internet connection.

Lets see how good my memory is and let me know if the cert issue goes away when you enter your domain with https also what I can not remember buy you can try this enter the domain with and then without the https://www meaning the www one way works the other does not.

More information about the Certificate error from IE:

* If you arrived at this page by clicking a link, check the website address in the address bar to be sure that it is the address you were expecting.
* When going to a website with an address such as https://example.com, try adding the 'www' to the address, https://www.example.com.

When I go into Certificate Details it says it was issued to my SERVER_NAME. Then I went to the Details tab and under Subject it says SERVER_NAME, LOCALHOST. The Certification Path tab also displays a small certificate icon with my SERVER_NAME.

Alright, let's see the results of the different combinations

* https with www displays certificate error.

* http with www does not display certificate error, but tells me IE blocked content with security certificate errors from displaying. Clicking "Show Content" refreshes the site and shows content. The content seems to be the icon/favicon for the http://www.SERVER.hphomeserver.com/Webshare/WebCC.m and http://www.SERVER.hphomeserver.com/Webshare links.

* http without www redirects to https with www and displays certificate error.

* https without www times out and says "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage". Guess it doesn't redirect.

I wouldn't say this is a huge issue, but it did peek at my curiosity. Let me know if you need additional info.

Alex, let me know if you still want me to send you the link.

Thanks!

Try turning off the "Secure Web Forwarding" feature in the Config dialog of the Domain Name setup on the Remote Access settings tab.

After doing that, "http without www" redirects to "http with www" and displays the blocked content warning just like on the previous post.

Send me the link if you'd like me to look. If your Remote Access URL is not in the certificate (you said it showed SERVERNAME and LOCALHOST) then you can try completely releasing/unconfiguring the URL and the reconfigure it, that should generate a new cert. Otherwise, live with it as it's just a warning. :)
