I just recently got a WD MyBook Studio Edition II 6 TB drive. Ideally I'd like to use it to plug into the server once a month to save a backup. When I attach it to the Home Server via USB, it works but (of course) data transfer is slow. I estimated that it'd take about 9 days to transfer 4.5 TB of data via USB, so I figured I'd use the eSATA feature on the drive. Unfortunately, strange things happen.

When I boot with the drive attached via eSATA, the status light goes solid purple. Hot-plugging the drive while the OS is running causes a BSOD, of course.

I'm assuming that it's trying to boot using the eSATA drive or something, since the light just goes purple, waits for a few minutes, then the system reboots. Then purple light. When I unplug the eSATA, everything works OK.

I haven't tinkered with the WHS install at all, aside from trying the 1.2.0.57 Marvell 61xx driver upgrade. Anyone have any advice?

I had endless problems with my pair of EX470s and the eSATA port when connecting the MediaSonic ProRAIDs (with 4x WD 2TB). Many BSOD.

I have tried drivers 1.2.0.46, .51, .57, .60, .68 & .69 and none of them were stable. I downloaded 1.2.0.7103 from Intel site for one their mobos and now it is totally stable. Boots fine with no BSOD. (STOR_all32_f6flpy32_1.2.0.7103_PV_Marvell)
