OK, these are not available automatically, you need to download them from the site. You can either read the instructions (who, me?) or go directly to http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?os=1005&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en&product=3548164 to download them.

The HP MediaSmart Server Online Backup functionality seems to be working great. I can select, schedule, upload and, unfortunately, get billed as well!

The only little problem I see is that if I click on "Schedule Backup" in the "HP Online Backup" tab it opens the settings for the "To Desktop" Add-In, not the ones for "HP Online Backup". A restart did not fix this; neither did a power cycle (which was actually an accidental consequence of an attempt to do a second restart). I can live with that.

UPDATE: It is currently backing up about 7GB of "critical" data. Fans are running around 1700rpm, CPU is at about 28C (2C over idle). According to the Task Manager, the network utilization is steady at about 0.21% (of 1GB) which seems incredibly good for an upload on a cable connection. The Add-In is predicting to need about 8 hours for 7GB -- not terribly consistent with the utilization but it is to be better than I expected. The process that runs appears to be HPOnlineBackupService.exe and, surprisingly, it is running at Normal priority. The MSS is responsive to other requests as this takes place so I am not particularly worried about running it when other things are going on.

I am pleased and grateful to HP for making this available.
