So. After a bit of back-and-forth with the server I finally got it up and fully functional. Well. Today it died... pissed me off. All I was doing was copying a file from one drive to the other but it died. Now, all it does is boot for 2 seconds and dies some more.

a pre-cursor to this event was the network port would die (the LED would turn off too). Now, this happened before where the LED would turn off but it never would just die it recovered shortly after - i blamed a driver at the time.

so, ultimately, my question is.. am I looking at a power supply? :-(

I tried different ram as well as put the origional CPU in there and same results

it sucks because this box was supposed to replace my ex475 and i've had nothing but problems with it

when you try to use the machine, are the lights flashing up front? you should see a pattern. like how many white and red flashes you see. if you can get that, you can google it.

personal experience, i got my 485 for 50 dollars because it wouldn't boot. it arrived, i looked up the flashing lights and deduced that it's the psu giving difficulty. got a new one and it boots just fine. it's been up and running for a little while now.

I pulled the PSU from my 470 and it boots up just fine now.

before, the lights would turn on like it wants to boot and then just die, fans and all. no errors just die. with the now donated power supply it boots fine now. I ordered a 330w PSU from flea-bay that says its compatible so hopefully it works out.. until it arrives, this:

I don't know if this the same problem but I had exactly the same issue with my EX485.
It would power up for a short time, then just switch off.
Then, when you pushed the power button it would come on for about 1 or 2 seconds then power off again.
I thought it was the common PSU issue, but I replaced that, and still exactly the same.

I never really figured out definittively what the issue was but after I changed the BIOS battery and restarted it was OK.
I figured that the BIOS config had got corrupted and was loading some weird-ass settings that caused it to frequently barf.
The CPU battery was way less that the regulation 3V so replaced it with a new one.
No problems since.
