Let me introduce myself. I grew up in farm country, traveled all the states but Alaska and Hawaii . I am a Satellite installer, be it internet, E* or DTV and their Directway. I maintained video on demand systems in many hotel properties in in Puerto Rico. I'm tech savvy and a cheap skate. I am now able to stream with my wives laptop. to on TVs. The transcoding software screws up here Facebook games. No Happy wife no happy house. I have everything I need to do FTA, or find away to stream off the net. I need a Kick a$$ media server and a desktop computer. I may want to add a FTA for the one TV that has nothing. It will be my monitor, 22" flat screen. Its mounted perfect for a nice desk I have. I want to stream from the server independent of computers Even with a FTA receiver or Roku . I want the capability to stream to 6 tvs at ounce if need be, but I have a tight budget. any Ideas.

I am not into the FTA stuff but streaming from a computer or server is pretty easy its more to do with file sharing and transcoding typically handled by the device reading the file.

Streaming to 6 TV's at the same time with 6 different media devices should not be overly difficult, not quite sure how that would work if all 6 units were reading the same file from where the media is stored on your network.

If your FTA Device can connect to your network devices and do the transcoding then all you need to make sure is that the files you store on your computer or media server are in a format your FTA or Media Device can transcode. You would need to setup sharing permissions on the device which contains your media.

What I would look closely at is trying to maintain a Gigabit network structure in your house to reduce any issues with network speed. Many media extenders only have 10/100 NICS but the newer ones do have gigabit NICs so if you can get all your devices to be gigabit it will help you stream your content better.
