Does anyone know whether the hp announcement the LX195s are no longer available for purchase mean that the LX is temporarily unavailable; being replaced; or being discontinued?

See "Technical Specs" link at http://www.hp.com/united-states/campaig ... /LXSeries/

I don't know if HP is replacing the LX195 but it would not surprise me if they were about to release another entry level MSS to replace it possibly one that can run the 3.0 software.

However everytime I am on eBay there are venders still selling new units for under $250 so if your looking to buy one then you can get one on eBay.

Thanks, I have an LX195. While I like it very much, some operations such as restoring WHS (which I have had to do) are not for the computer challenged. I was just wondering if hp had found that selling to the low end of the market was not successful.

I think HP has to have an entry level product that allows for people get some WHS experience who might want to try it but are not quite sure. Later when they outgrow the unit and seek a replacement they are most likely going to upgrade to a higher level unit. Translation is more sales.

On the other hand if ones expectations are too high then it could have the reverse affect and then again who really knows.

As for any change in the LX195 changing I would imagine that Alex would mention it in the News Area on this site. I firmly believe HP will replace the LX195 but I have no clue what they will replace it with or when.

I'll guess I just monitor the hp site for developments. I hope they continue with an entry level model.

I've heard no news on this from HP, however that sounds "discontinued" to me...

I think that was the same message that appeared when they discontinued the 48X series.Right?

Edit: Just when to the HP website and guess what? Looking at the screen shot below they don't even have them in the list anymore

I went out to a few vendor sites and the LX195 is not available so I'm pretty sure it is discontinued.

I too hope HP continues with an entry level MMS. I purchased the LX195 so I could test the waters of a homeserver to see if it fits my needs and then maybe one day upgrading to another model.

The $200 price point and HP software made this a great deal for me and I'm very happy with the server. I'll probably hold out for a new server until WHSv2 64bit makes an appearance.

HP made a two bay Linux based NAS that would be the perfect chassis for a starter home server. Just put an Atom processor in that puppy and with two drives you can at least enable folder duplication and still do PC backups.

They could probably sell a box like that for $349 and it would be a big hit.

//update

The box was the L4400. Cute little bugger... I could never figure out why they didn't offer it with WHS.

That l4400 certainly would have made a fantastic entry level WHS box. I would have bought it over my ex487 as I have no need for 4 drive bays, just 2. By the time I want to expand past 2 drives, something better would have rolled around I'm sure.
